Blog Entrymy jeepney rideMay 19, '07 9:51 AM
for everyone
the other day i had to pick up my car from the shop. it wasn't that far from where i was coming from. in fact, it was just a few minutes away. so instead of a cab, i rode the jeepney. it has been years since i last rode a jeepney. and in that 15-minute ride, so many thoughts went through my head. so here are my jeepney ride musings....

-- one of my first lessons on god's provision came from a jeepney. i was a new christian and a freshman in university. i didn't have my own car then. i either had to ride with my brother to school or otherwise, take the jeepney. one particular day, i had a different schedule from my brother and i had to go to school right when the morning rush hour hit. i was in the middle of what seemed to be thousands of people waiting for one jeepney. i silently prayed and asked god for what seemed an impossible matter -- a ride to school without being late. and i was really close to being late. in a matter of minutes, a jeepney stopped right in front of me with exactly one seat as if reserved just for me. i got on the jeep and sensed god telling me, "i will always come through for you, be it as simple as a jeepney ride or anything big you ask me for."

-- a few years later i did ask god for my own car, and again, right when i couldn't have done anything on my own, he came through. i didn't even have money for a bike, and a car came. again, god reminded me, he will always come through if i ask in faith.

-- it has been years since i'd have to wait with numerous people to get a jeepney ride or even a cab. and needless to say, it has been comfortable. the other day when i had to ride a jeep, i remembered so many things, many good memories. and, i actually enjoyed my jeepney ride. more than anything, it reminded me of god's faithfulness and provision. it reminded me to always have a grateful heart.

i guess i will take that jeepney ride every now and then. it keeps my feet on the ground.

wish i could say the same about riding the jeep. the last time i rode one, i was with my hubby. it was a looong time ago. i could not believe he made me ride a jeep! but that's when i knew how much i was willing to adjust to a loved one, whom God has graciously given to me ♥ God's provision =)

I love jeeps! Man they are sooooo fun! It's funny how when most filipinos find out that I've been there ask if I've taken one. That and the "have you eaten balut" question. I'd rather take a jeep than a cab, bus or FX anyday! Well unless of course someone is giving me a ride. ;) Filipinos are such wonderfully clean people that I don't mind sitting cosily between 2 strangers. In Singapore, however, there's about a 20% chance of sitting next to a stinker when sharing seats!

oh i have a similar experience, but in mine I was describing to God what a jeep looks like and that i need a ride quick. then one stopped in front of me and God said "I know what a jeep is."

hey rola. i know how you feel. i don't really relish the idea of commuting. but it was one of those days when god was just there and everything worked out ok.... i'm sure arnel was really glad you took that ride with him. :)

and God said "I know what a jeep is."
that's so true. god always knows what we need -- even before we ask. and, we don't even have to explain it to him.

:( unfortunately I won't be able to make it then. My Practicum starts during then and I am not entitled to leave yet. But I'm sure it'll be an awesome time! And it's good to know that my slot may be taken by someone who will catch the vision for the first time!

as a veteran jeepney rider, i suggest to keep one's hands on a fixed part of the jeep (to stabilize yourself in case the jeep suddenly swerves or stops, as it often does) and your stuff near your body (to protect against snatchers and bag-slashers, especially in certain routes or areas).
